The library was once again excited to partner with RAC to host a DIY series. The first series for the 2021-2022 academic year was a mending workshop! You can view some pictures from the event below!
During the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semester, the library partnered with the Office of Sustainability and the Student Learning Center to create a hands-on virtual workshop that highlighted how to be sustainable in study habits while teaching participants how to create a DIY Recycled Notebook.
The library partnered with RAC to host a Mending Workshop on October 19th, 2019. The event was a success and launched the RAC DIY series in the library. Check out some pictures from the event on the RAC's instagram page:
The second workshop in the DIY series was a sweater upcycling events! Participants learned how to turn old sweaters into mittens, hats, and gloves!
The library has put together a multifaceted event titled: Why I Walk. The purpose of the event is to encourage and promote walking as a form of sustainable transportation practice and as a form of mindfulness. The first part of the event began with the publication of a blog post by Librarian Jean-Paul Orgeron on walking.
The second part of the event involved a challenge. Participants from the library staff logged their steps from the morning of August 16th to the early afternoon of August 20th, 2021. In total, the participants logged over 227,000 steps, which equaled out to just under 80 miles! As part of the challenge, participants shared some pictures from their walking adventures during the week. These photos were shared in an instagram post!
One of the RAC DIY Series events hosted by the library was repurposing old denim into mini storage buckets such as pencil holders. You can view pictures from the event on the RAC's instagram page:
The third workshop in the DIY Series was T-Shirt Upcycling. Attendees learned how to convert old t-shirts into things like a reusable bag!
During the spring 2021 semester, the Sustainability Team asked Rachel Kornhauser, Sustainability Officer, to give a presentation on recycling. Rachel gladly presented virtually to our group, sharing tips and information on recycling from the local to the global level.
