Check out our brand-new Blind Date with a Book display! This display was created by your Resident Book Lovers (a.k.a. Milne Librarians) to celebrate Valentine's Day and will stay up until February 21st. This display is located on the bookshelf directly outside of Milne 102A, on the first floor of the Milne Library.

So, what is a Blind Date with a Book display? A Blind Date with a Book is a longstanding display in bookstores and libraries, which challenges patrons to not choose a book by its cover, but instead rely on hints, such as genres, short descriptions, or recommendations, to inform what book they choose to read next.

The Milne Library’s Blind Date with a Book display is made up primarily of our Young Adult Collection and spotlights different genres of books within this collection, including Contemporary Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, Mystery, Romance, and Science Fiction. After these books were selected, they were then wrapped to conceal the identity of the book, and then our library student workers designed the new "book covers" to associate the books with their genres. In this color associated design, the genre of Contemporary Fiction is Purple, Fantasy is Light Blue, Horror is Dark Blue, Mystery is Orange, Romance is Red, and Science Fiction is Green.

How do you participate in our Blind Date with a Book Display?

  1. Come to the Milne Library and locate the Blind Date with a Book display, which is located on the first floor of the library, just outside of Milne 102A.
    • Hint: If you have any trouble finding the display, please ask! We would be happy to direct you to our new display.
  2. Determine what genre of book you would like to read for your “Blind Date.”
  3. Choose one of the wrapped books which is color associated with that genre.
  4. Bring the book to the Circulation Desk to check it out.
  5. Enjoy your "Blind Date with a Book"!
  6. Return the book to the library once you are done with your “Blind Date”!

We hope you have enjoyed this display, check back after February 21st when we will reveal which of our Milne Library books were a part of the Blind Date with a Book display!

From the author of Burn Our Bodies Down, a feminist Lord of the Flies about three best friends living in quarantine at their island boarding school, and the lengths they go to uncover the truth of their confinement when one disappears. This fresh debut is a mind-bending novel unlike anything you've read before. It's been eighteen months since the Raxter School for Girls was put under quarantine. Since the Tox hit and pulled Hetty's life out from under her. It started slow. First the teachers died one by one. Then it began to infect the students, turning their bodies strange and foreign. Now, cut off from the rest of the world and left to fend for themselves on their island home, the girls don't dare wander outside the school's fence, where the Tox has made the woods wild and dangerous. They wait for the cure they were promised as the Tox seeps into everything. But when Byatt goes missing, Hetty will do anything to find her, even if it means breaking quarantine and braving the horrors that lie beyond the fence. And when she does, Hetty learns that there's more to their story, to their life at Raxter, than she could have ever thought true. And don't miss Rory Power's second novel, Burn Our Bodies Down! An Instant New York Times Bestseller * A William C. Morris YA Debut Award Finalist * An Asian Pacific American Librarians Association Honor Book "Extraordinary . . . a beautifully layered novel about first love, tribalism and that brief, magical period when kids have one foot in high school, one foot out the door. . . Yoon explores themes of racism, forgiveness and acceptance without getting earnest or preachy or letting anyone off the hook." --New York Times Two friends. One fake dating scheme. What could possibly go wrong? Frank Li has two names. There's Frank Li, his American name. Then there's Sung-Min Li, his Korean name. No one uses his Korean name, not even his parents. Frank barely speaks any Korean. He was born and raised in Southern California. Even so, his parents still expect him to end up with a nice Korean girl--which is a problem, since Frank is finally dating the girl of his dreams: Brit Means. Brit, who is funny and nerdy just like him. Brit, who makes him laugh like no one else. Brit . . . who is white. As Frank falls in love for the very first time, he's forced to confront the fact that while his parents sacrificed everything to raise him in the land of opportunity, their traditional expectations don't leave a lot of room for him to be a regular American teen. Desperate to be with Brit without his parents finding out, Frank turns to family friend Joy Song, who is in a similar bind. Together, they come up with a plan to help each other and keep their parents off their backs. Frank thinks he's found the solution to all his problems, but when life throws him a curveball, he's left wondering whether he ever really knew anything about love--or himself--at all. In this moving debut novel David Yoon takes on the question of who am I? with a result that is humorous, heartfelt, and ultimately unforgettable.
