Tools to evaluate information

When you use information from sources it is important to make sure the source and the information is reliable.  Following are a list of evaluation tools/tests to aid you in determining the reliability of the source and information you are using for your research.

 

  • SIFT: Stop, Investigate the Source, Find Better Coverage, and Trace Claims (Caufield, 2019)
  • CRAAP Test: Currency, Relevance Authority, Accuracy, and Purpose (Blakeslee 2004)
  • RADAR: Relevance, Authority, Date, Appearance & Accuracy, and Reason (Mandalios, 2013)
  • ACT UP: Author, Currency, Truth, Unbiased, and Privilege (Stahura, 2018). 
  • ROBOT Test: Reliability, Objective, Bias, Ownership, and Type (Hervieux and Wheatley, 2020)

Evaluating Websites

If you are going to use websites for your research, it is important to make sure that the website is reliable. There are many different ways to evaluate websites. One easy way is by using the CRAAP test.
