The library recently celebrated International Open Access Week, held from October 21st to October 27th. This global initiative aims to inspire change by promoting the open sharing of knowledge to address pressing social issues worldwide.
If you're interested in supporting the Open Access movement and exploring publishing opportunities, consider SOAR, SUNY Oneonta's Journal of Undergraduate Social Science and History. SOAR is a selective, peer-reviewed journal that is student-led and faculty-advised. It provides undergraduate students from SUNY Oneonta with a platform to publish high-quality academic research. Publishing provides valuable benefits, including hands-on research experience, educational growth, and a meaningful contribution to the academic community.
The SOAR Journal is published in the SUNY Open Access Repository, also known as SOAR, which provides a platform for sharing scholarly work freely. Indexed in Google Scholar, SOAR repository ensures that your research is accessible to a global audience, increasing its visibility and impact. Additionally, SOAR repository offers valuable usage statistics, allowing authors to track the number of visits and downloads their work receives. Each publication in SOAR also includes a permanent link, which you can add to your resume or portfolio to showcase your work professionally.
For instance, consider the usage statistic above of Megan Brady a student who published in SOAR's Volume 3 in 2019. Her paper, titled "Feminism and Flapperdom: Sexual Liberation, Ownership of Body and Sexuality, & Constructions of Femininity in the Roaring 20s," has been viewed 4,438 times and downloaded 10,082 times. These impressive numbers highlight how SOAR not only amplifies your work but also connects it to a wide, engaged readership.
There will be a peer review workshop on November 13th, from 12:00PM to 1:00PM in the Milne Library, Room 305! This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience with peer reviewing as we dive into real manuscripts in need of review. You do not need to be a member to attend.
