Results of Review of Print and Electronic Subscriptions

by Michelle Hendley on 2024-09-04T08:00:00-04:00 | 0 Comments

Milne Library’s print and electronic subscriptions are reviewed periodically to ensure that they are meeting the current curriculum, education, scholarship, and informational needs of the university’s students, faculty, and staff.  Over the summer, librarians reviewed several low use subscription resources to identify subscriptions for non-renewal.   A thoughtful review of subscription resources and non-renewal of items deemed no longer meeting the needs of the campus community is a necessary part of collection development for all academic libraries.  The non-renewal process is by Milne Library’s Collection Development Policy.  The following criteria, which is set out in the policy, were considered when identifying resources for non-renewal.

  • Significant price increases
  • Availability of alternative resources
  • The currency and reliability of the resource’s content in relation to its cost
  • The design and usability of the resource
  • Changes in format and/or content deemed unfavorable
  • Is not of national/statewide/regional/local significance
  • No longer supports the curricular and/or scholarship needs of the SUNY Oneonta community
  • Loss of the resource isn’t going to impact under-represented areas or marginalized communities

The list of resources that were not renewed are available below:
