For academic research, it is often important to use peer-reviewed (or refereed) journals rather than popular magazines. Peer review is the process by which a journal article is evaluated by experts in the field. An example of a peer-reviewed journal is Communication Studies. An example of a popular magazine is Psychology Today.
**To see a list of databases for academic subjects, click on the Databases tab on the library website and then click on Subject. Choose the appropriate subject, such as communication, and then click on Search to retrieve a list of database titles particularly appropriate for the study of communication.
Some databases include articles on many subjects. These are often the most appropriate for starting research. Databases often include citations to articles for which full text is not available. However, you can filter or select Full Text to limit results to only those articles in full text.
