Keep in mind that research is an exploratory process. Effective research involves using multiple resources—such as databases, online tools, and the library catalog—and refining your searches with different keyword combinations.
For this course, we’ll utilize both the library’s general resources and its special collections. Be sure to check out the "The Alden Room" tab in the left-hand navigation pane, which provides a dedicated guide for conducting research in The Alden Room, home to our library’s special collections and archives
Conducting research can be difficult when you are unfamiliar with the terms being used to describe certain types of items. It is important to familiarize yourself with what particular library words mean.
Refer back to some of the handouts received in class. The Definitions handout and Types of Periodicals chart will be particularly useful to keep.
