3rd Floor Stacks Closed for Summer 2014
Following the May 7, 2014 construction meeting update w/ Dr. Bishop in attendance, the decision has been made that May 20th will be the last day to access the 3rd floor collection. All stacks will be wrapped on the 21st and taped up for the duration of the project. This change in access to 3rd floor materials has been made in consultation with Dr. Bishop and the contractor's team working on the project. Multiple issues relating to training, safety, permissions, and collection protection have all contributed to this decision.
Dr. Bishop, UUP Health and Safety Officer: "I strongly recommend that UUP personnel be kept out of the construction area, not only until the work on Milne Library’s exterior is complete, but also until the air handling systems have been cleaned and/or certified to be free of airborne contaminants." CSEA's Bill Grimes noted that if CSEA workers felt that it was unsafe to go into the stacks they can refuse.
The library staff will provide shelving to store any materials that faculty would like to check out and have access to during the summer. The location for said materials is TBD at this time. This storage area within Milne Library will allow faculty access to their materials during summer library hours. Any faculty member wishing to access materials on the third floor must do so before May 21.
We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. Other libraries in our region have been contacted to apprise them of our situation. Additionally, the library will expedite as many ILL requests as we can.
